Military Strikes and Mind Games

Category: 24, TV — @ 2:38 pm

We last left off with Larry Moss and a team of agents surrounded at an old military complex by Jonas Hodges’ team of mercenaries. Total standoff. As for Jack…due to his exposure to one of Starkwood’s biological weapons, he was politely asked to sit this one out, so he’s calling the shots back at FBI HQ. There, he learns that Doug Knowles (one of Starkwood’s board members who has some issues with Hodges’ way of running things) was helping Senator Mayer’s investigation of Starkwood. He manages to contact Knowles, who is willing to comply, but now Jack needs Moss and his team to leave the complex, but also leave Tony behind to rendezvous with Knowles. Done.

Once Knowles and Tony meet up, Jack directs them to the building that is likely holding the weapons. Of course, Starkwood guys show up, and while Tony hides, Knowles explains that he’s a board member and has every right to be there. Good call. But unfortunately, the Starkwood guys call Hodges, who insists that Knowles be brought to see him. Tony’s on his own now, but gets into the building which is a plus. Naturally, Tony runs into a few of his own problems, but takes out two Starkwood mercs and throws on a uniform, hoping to move through the building relatively unnoticed. Tony is becoming quite the American James Bond these days. With his trendy new Starkwood mercenary look, Tony makes his way to the weapons and confirms that they are there, so Jack can relay that information to the military and authorize a strike. Meanwhile, Knowles is confronted by Hodges. Hodges gives a very patriotic speech, and then–stuff like this is becoming classic Jonas Hodges–he beats a bottle over Knowles’ head and throws him over a railing. WTF?!?

Elsewhere, Olivia received a call from her journalist contact who seemed to know what was going on with (more…)

Jack Bauer Gets Sidelined, Tony Almeida Gets Played

Category: 24, TV — @ 4:37 pm

The Starkwood secrets out! Jack is infected by a biological weapon! Tony’s been captured by the Starkwood mercs! Beware, the rest of this season could be incredibly awesome!

So once the dudes in the plastic suits arrive to check Jack out, Jack is forced to strip down to his bare ass in the middle of the highway. Talk about embarrassing. They draw some blood and get Jack to FBI where he is placed in quarantine. Low and behold, the results come back positive! Fortunately though, he can leave quarantine because they have determined that the disease is not contagious, but regardless, this is still a pretty ugly situation for Bauer. How long does our diseased hero have to sit on the sidelines with these new handicap of his?

Meanwhile, Tony is also incapacitated when he is brought to Starkwood and confronts Hodges face to face. Hodges sees that Tony won’t talk and sends one of his guys to beat the crap out of him, in hopes that Tony will divulge some sort of information regarding what the FBI knows. Hodges right hand man, Seaton, suggests that because the operation no longer appears to be secret, maybe they should destroy the weapon. Hodges says screw that. Seaton takes matters into his own hands…he busts Tony out and they sneak up to Seaton’s office. Seaton insists that Tony ensures his immunity if he cooperates in helping the FBI find the weapon…great idea, cut deals with the fugitive of the state to avoid prison time. Sarcasm aside, it worked. Tony contacted Moss and managed to get Seaton a presidential pardon. How about that?

And now the action…Seaton reveals the whereabouts (more…)

The Following Takes Place Between 8:00 PM and 11:00 PM

Category: 24, TV — @ 7:40 pm

Packin’ 3 hours of Jack Bauer action into one, hopefully as brief as possible, post. As you probably remember, many weeks ago, President Taylor left the safe room with Juma threatened her daughter, Olivia, with certain death. As a result, Juma now has a bunch of hostages, President Taylor included, in the White House! He tells Taylor that she will issue a statement over the internet apologizing for the United States’ atrocious actions around the world. She does so, and meanwhile Agent Moss is outside arguing with the Vice-President about storming the White House. As for Bill and Jack, they’re seated with the hostages debating their next move. Bill makes it. He rushes at one of Juma’s guards and grabs his firearm, shooting at the ceiling and setting off explosives within the room. A silent commercial break countdown confirms that this was a suicide mission, and Bill, like so many CTU directors before him, has died in the line of duty.

Fortunately, Bill’s death was not in vein, and it cued Agent Moss to go over the Vice-President’s head and storm the White House. During the chaos, Jack chases after Juma and winds up killing him. Juma in custody might have ended the whole ordeal, but hey, there’s still 12 hours of action that needs to play out this season. Despite all of Jack’s heroics, he is once again placed into custody by Moss (what’s that, the third time today?) but continues to plead that Juma had outside intelligence and therefore he needs to question Burnett regarding that outside intelligence. Moss blows him off, but this time Renee goes over Moss’s head and talks to Ethan, President Taylor’s chief of staff, who in turn makes the call to allow Jack to question Burnett. Their logic: Jack doesn’t need to harm Burnett, the threat of Jack’s presence should scare the hell out of Burnett. Moss agrees after Ethan makes the call, but then puts Renee on suspension for insubordination.

Elsewhere, President Taylor and Olivia have a tender moment, and Olivia is back on the staff. Apparently the falling out was due to Olivia playing hardball during the election, leaking negative press about their opponent. Ethan and Olivia are at odds though, namely because Ethan totally disapproved of Olivia’s actions, but Olivia disapproves of how Ethan has let things get so out of hand.

Once at the hospital, Jack is sent in to see Burnett (more…)

General Juma Goes to Washington…Chaos Ensues

Category: 24, TV — @ 12:07 am

Alright, with two solid episodes of “24″ to blow through, there’s a lot to cover. Long story short, Jack has teamed back up with Tony and they need to find out what the next target is…this will involve torturing that information out of Burnett, Senator Mayer’s chief of staff…who is currently at the White House. Take a wild guess what the next target is. Oh yeah, and Juma, well, with Dubaku out of commission, Juma is currently running this operation personally…on US soil. Yup, this looks bad…well, for the Jack and the other characters…for us, the viewers, this is pretty damn awesome.

Cutting straight to Juma, well he has a guy posing as an orderly on duty at the hospital Dubaku is being held in. Eh, I thought he was dead, but apparently he’s not…well, now he is because Juma had the orderly kill Dubaku off. This is complicated by the fact that Dubaku’s son, little Dubaku, is rolling with Juma, and Juma insists he can never know about this. Renee senses something is fishy and follows this mysterious orderly, back to a boat.

Jack and Tony lay out a plan of attack, deciding that it’s best if they leave Bill out of this because Jack is going to step outside of the law by torturing Burnett for information that will lead them to the next target. They contact Chloe and tell her to delete Burnett’s name from the list with all those damn traitors on it. Basically, I think the goal is to torture Burnett, and then maybe the government would cut him a deal if he divulges the target. Something like that. Well, unfortunately for Chloe, Janis caught onto her games and figured out that a name was deleted, so Moss put Chloe into custody. As for Jack, he blew straight into the White House, armed with a taser, holding Bill briefly hostage to ensure the fact that Bill would not be associated with his actions. Naturally, at this particular moment, Senator Mayer was being briefed on everything Bauer has done to save the country, the argument being that he should be quietly pardoned for prior actions. Well, Jack sort of hurt his case when he found Burnett and went straight to work pulling the same kind of stunt that landed him in a court room to begin with.

With Burnett located, Jack locked the doors and started tasing the crap out of him, pressing him for what the next target is. Bill had to tell President Taylor and Senator Mayer about what Jack was up to, and President Taylor buzzed into the room on the phone to stop Jack from torturing Burnett. Jack’s response? Tasing the damn phone! Just when Jack had the taser at Burnett’s throat, which could potentially paralyze Burnett, (more…)

Another Mission Accomplished…Or Not

Category: 24, TV — @ 1:01 am

Big changes for Jack Bauer and company this week as FBI weeded out their moles and Jack finally managed to get his hands on Dubaku. Unfortunately, it looks as if all this is just the tip of the iceberg and there are shadier things afoot within the government, according to a brief appearance by Tony.

At FBI, Sean filled in Erika on the status of things, meaning they were the collective leak within the FBI, meaning that I was partially right about who the mole was. He explained that he put out the warrant for Jack and Renee, but Moss quickly nullified that little hangup and they were quickly released. They found themselves back on the chase, but as it turned out they were not the ones responsible for the final capture of Dubaku.

While Dubaku had harsh words with Marika, he still managed to convince her to join him, claiming he still loves her. She went, but soon enough she came to her senses and jumped into the front seat to grab the wheel, causing a pretty ugly car crash. Jack and Renee quickly got to the scene, shooting the driver and then making sure that they had Dubaku. Marika was unconscious and stuck in the car, which was on fire, so Jack told Renee to get away because the car was going to blow. When he insisted, Renee turned his gun on him and said she promised Marika and her sister that they would be alright, at which point Jack helped pull Marika from the car…barely seconds before the explosion…gotta love television and their dramatic sense of timing. While Jack secured Dubaku, Renee attempted CPR on Marika, but Marika was dead.

Once an ambulance arrived after a timely commercial interruption, Jack insisted that the paramedics wake up Dubaku so he could quickly interrogate him. It was really a waste of time, because it wasn’t until the paramedics attempted to use paddles on him that they realized he had a metal plate in him, which after a quick incision, turned out to be a flash drive of sorts.  Well I’ll be damned if this wasn’t quickly delivered to FBI where Chloe could properly analyze it and reveal everyone involved in this whole government scheme.

At the hospital, Bill filled in President Taylor on the dirty dirty about Dubaku, and told her she was no longer safe at the hospital and that she must return to the White House. There, she had a brief encounter with her daughter Olivia, where they avoided explicitly laying out their issues. Shot outa the cannon, I’m betting Olivia is gay and something like that could’ve tarnished President Taylor’s political career so they kept it on the d/l.

Back at FBI, Sean approached Erika about the information en route to FBI and explained that (more…)

FBI Blows Bauer’s Big Plan

Category: 24, TV — @ 9:29 pm

The race against time beats on as First Gentleman Henry Taylor is rushed to the hospital while Jack and Renee get back on track and attempt to find Dubaku. Naturally, Dubaku is in a hurry to get out of the country safely, also ensuring the safety of his girlfriend Marika, who is not so wise to his terrorist schemes. And of course, things shake up at FBI headquarters when Chloe enters to do some top secret stuff with Moss, making Janis feel a little replaced.

While the last episode made it look like Dubaku was heading off to kill Marika’s sister, but instead he went straight to Marika and fed her some bull about immigration troubles and needing to leave the country immediately. He asked her to come, but to not tell her sister, and that within a week he would get her sister with them. She completely bought it and headed home to pack, being incredibly evasive with her sister about what was going on.

Jack and Renee search Dubaku’s guys and manage to pull an address up, and quickly make their way to the apartment. After busting down the door, they find Marika and her sister there, and while Marika denies knowing the man in the picture Jack shows them, Marika’s sister wises up and says they do know him, but they know him as Samuel. Well, now Jack has some ’splainin’ to do, because Dubaku ain’t the Samuel that Marika thinks she knows.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
As for Dubaku, he continued making arrangements to get out of the country, meeting with one of his insiders, Burnett. Looking around, Dubaku could see that he was in a trap, but he told Burnett that should anything happen to him or Marika, records of everyone involved in this would be sent to the justice department. Guess it’s all about leverage. As a result, Burnett assured Dubaku that Marika would be picked up and delivered to him within the hour.

At the hospital, things are far from looking good for Henry Taylor, at which point President Taylor insists that someone find her estranged (more…)

Jack Starts Workin’ For the Man, But Still Plays By His Own Rules

Category: 24, TV — @ 8:18 pm

Jack and company were last seen en route to the White House to meet with President Taylor, with Prime Minister Mutobo vouching for them. They’ve officially found themselves cornered and have no choice but to team up with the government, despite the fact that there are clearly some trust issues. Meanwhile, First Gentleman Henry Taylor is not out of trouble just yet; he’s currently being held hostage by Dubaku and will be killed within the hour if President Taylor doesn’t give into his demands. As a result, it looks like Jack and Renee have a slight detour in the overall mission of stopping Dubaku…and that’s rescuing Henry Taylor.

Jack, Bill, Renee, and Mutobo are snuck into the White House via an underground entrance (Tony sat this one out because he’s a wanted criminal, and I assume Chloe is off helping him with some things). Mutobo explains to President Taylor that all is not what it seems, and that Jack actually saved his life and recovered the CIP device. Bill then explains that he couldn’t bring his theory to the president about the government being corrupt because he had no idea who could be trusted. When Ethan steps up and explains that Agent Gage and Sam were found in Sam’s apartment, dead, and Gage had paralytic drugs with him, they realize Gage was in compliance with this conspiracy and that Bill is telling the truth. A call from Mutobo in which he cuts off Henry Taylor’s finger further confirms that Dubaku is pulling these strings in the government. His threat to kill Taylor by 4 o’clock then leads straight into this episode’s action.

Jack decides that Henry Taylor can be saved and pleads with President Taylor that he can be trusted. When she asks what makes him think he can do this, he says a watered down version of what he should have said, “With all due respect, ask around.” Granted, he could have totally gotten away with saying, (more…)

The Dubaku Debacle

Category: 24, TV — @ 8:28 pm

With Prime Minister Mutobo in Dubaku’s hands, things are playing out just like Jack and company have planned. By following Dubaku’s guys, they’re hoping to catch and arrest Dubaku…but let’s face it, it’s way too early in the season for Dubaku to come easily, so things no doubt get complicated…

Once at Dubaku’s building, Renee uses her FBI clearance to get past security and let Jack, Tony, and Bill in through an external door on the roof. From there, Jack and Renee climb through the vents, making their way to that high-tech room we’ve seen Dubaku in while Tony and Bill make their way on foot to that same room. While undercover CTU gets into position, Mutobo has already confronted Dubaku and insisted that he will never give up the names of his allies. Naturally, once Dubaku is spotted and Jack gets a clear visual on the status of the room, Tony and Bill bust in blowing seven different kinds of smoke. Jack and Renee join in, raising the body count and searching for Dubaku and the CIP device, only to find that Dubaku has given them the slip and the CIP device is destroyed.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Before the interruption, Dubaku was in the middle of launching another terrorist attack, using a chemical plant in Kidron, Ohio to do so. He was overriding the controls and planned to release toxins that would kill at least 17,000 people…half the population. At FBI, Janis was able to follow a few leads and realize that this particular plant was being targeted, and quickly contacted the plant manager about the potential threat. He acted quickly, seeing that he would have to perform some kind of manual override that meant he would be releasing toxins into a room…with him in it. He did so, but due to unforeseen interruptions, Dubaku called off the attack. Ultimately, the manager in Kidron, Ohio didn’t survive, but his sacrifice was not overlooked by Janis, whose heart goes out to him.

As for Jack and company, once the authorities were showing up at the building that they had just blown to hell, needless to say they had to get the hell out of there. After grabbing Mutobo and his wife, they quickly headed back for the safehouse to weigh their options and decide their next (more…)

Undercover CTU Gains the Upper Hand

Category: 24, TV — @ 8:07 pm

Well, Renee pulled through due to the quick and timely arrival of Bill and Chloe to save her. Apparently Jack managed to contact them and let them know where to find her. She wasn’t breathing…so rather than go for the old fashioned mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, Bill immediately gave her a shot of adrenaline. Probably entirely unnecessary. Once revived she insisted on contacting her people at the FBI, but Bill filled her in on Jack and Tony’s undercover status and the conspiracy within the government, then explained that for the time being she needs to stay “dead.”

Jack and Tony arrived at the warehouse, but Jack really blew it with Emerson by asking way too many questions about how he initially recruited Tony and got Tony out of CTU that day. Not smart, which is probably why Emerson grew suspicious and put a gun to Emerson’s head, forcing Tony to blow his cover and point his gun at Emerson, only to have one of Emerson’s thugs point a gun at Tony. What a predicament. Fortunately, Jack’s fast gun and quick thinking rubbed off on Tony somewhere along the way, and Tony was able to take a shot at Emerson’s thug and give Emerson some severe wounds. With three gun shots, Jack and Tony are now running this whole operation, but an issue they’re faced with is getting Mutobo to allow with things and get captured.

At the White House, President Taylor finds herself backed into a corner when she receives a phone call from Dubaku, who as we all know, has control of the CIP device. He uses it to crash two planes into each other, giving President Taylor a hell of a view from the Oval Office. She calls the cabinet together to immediately discuss options, but she winds up insisting that they not respond to this threat, causing one of her Secretaries to resign and walk out on the meeting.

Back at the warehouse, Tony tries to help Emerson, but Emerson refuses and winds up strangling himself in front of Tony (I think that’s what happened at least, I really didn’t think that was possible, but it seems like that’s what Emerson did). Bill and Chloe soon arrive with Renee (more…)

Jack Gets Crafty in Dealing With a Few Crises

Category: 24, TV — @ 9:31 pm

Another Monday night means another hour of “24.” We last left off with Jack, Tony, and Emerson trying to abduct Mutobo, the prime minister of Sangala, the hitch of course being that Mutobo and his wife are in a panic room. Without Mutobo, Jack and Tony won’t be able to get to Dubaku. While Mutobo explains to his wife that they want names of his allies that he would easily take to the grave with him, he also insinuates that they’ll use her to get him to talk. Outside, Jack and the crew realize the FBI is coming, meaning they have to work fast.

Jack suggests using some household products, like bleach and ammonia to make a homemade gas and flush Mutobo out of the panic room by getting the gas into the vents. This works fairly well, and Mutobo and his wife almost see it through to the grim end, but Mutobo’s wife finally opens the door and gets them both captured. As Jack and the gang are packing up the van and getting ready to get the hell out of there, Renee shows up solo and gets caught by one of Emerson’s guys. Emerson is ready to just kill her, but Jack and Tony explain that they should keep her alive and determine what Tanner has told the FBI. That’s some fast talking.

Elsewhere, at FBI headquarters, there are heavy clues about Sean and Erica being secret forbidden lovers. Erica toooootally can’t stop thinking about last night, and Sean can’t either…but Sean totally has a wife so this whole situation is totally not cool. Janis also picks up a definite vibe that Moss has feelings for Renee. So basically all the FBI scenes were good for this time around was complicated love plots

First Gentleman Taylor continues his quest to unravel the conspiracy behind his son’s supposed suicide. As we learned in “24: Redemption,” Roger Taylor was looking into (more…)
