Desperate Times for Danko…And Everybody Else

I’ll cut right to it…Nathan and Claire are hiding out in Mexico but find themselves flat broke, Peter and Angela head to a church and debate their next move, and Sylar and Danko team up…? Puzzling, but it looks like they seem to have a common goal.

Down in Mexico, Nathan and Claire manage to scrape together enough cash for a crappy motel room, but are otherwise tapped out. Claire takes the initiative and scores some serious cash by selling a necklace give to her by Noah, and her liver…twice. Ah, this girl amazes me. When she meets up with Nathan at a bar and shows him her earnings, he spots some kids and tells her that he can use it to make even more. Apparently, back when Nathan was a Navy man they would make money at the ports by doing tequila shots until someone passed out. I’ll be damned if Nathan didn’t go to work, but ultimately, he couldn’t quite hold his own against these younger guys. As a result, he passed out and Claire had to catch up and step in…so Claire did roughly 22 shots just to catch up. Basically, Claire can’t get drunk…which in her age group, is kind of a huge bummer, but for this particular plot purpose, it paid off. Eventually, the other dude passed out, and Claire won the cash.

Claire dragged Nathan back to the motel where Nathan opened up to her about how he totally handled everything badly, and gave her a free pass in hopes of making everything right between them. The next morning, Nathan explains that he wants to fix this but he doesn’t know what to do. Claire tells him how amazing he is, likening him to Superman, before eventually walking out. Nathan catches up to her on the street, where she informs him she’s going back to the states, and he then shows her that he sold his watch in exchange for the necklace she sold. He tells her that he too, is going back and will find a way to do something.

Back in the states, Sylar and Danko are both trying to solve a mystery, and sure enough, they realize they might be able to help each other. Danko’s men have been killed attempting to apprehendĀ  a man with abilities…but it turns out he’s a shapeshifter. Sylar’s pretty hungry for this ability and forges an alliance with Danko, showing him how to track the shapeshifter and take him down. In return…well, it doesn’t hurt Sylar to have an in with the guy in charge of imprisoning people like him. They sleuth out the situation, and Sylar shows him that the shapeshifter takes on personalities of powerful men, and eventually they follow the shapeshifter to a club, where they both spot…Danko! The shapeshifter has taken on Danko’s form and is totally making out with a chick in the corner, and Sylar points out that this guy is “a better you than you.” They split off to try and catch him and when Sylar comes up next to Danko and they both agree they lost him, they step outside. Sylar reaches for a gun, but Danko is quick and shoots him. The shapeshifter took on Sylar’s form! Sylar steps from behind and Danko points out that he didn’t kill him. Sylar smirks and reaches out ready to open the guys head, but Danko asks him if he can take the power without leaving a mark, and Sylar does so. Nice.

As for Peter and Angela, they spend most of the episode hiding out in a church. Angela expresses some regrets on decisions she made in the past, ways she wronged her sons, blah blah blah. Sure enough a team of Danko’s men roll in to search the church. They’re now on the hunt for Angela. Peter and Angela quickly move to the confessional where they hide, and it seems like they corner themselves. During the search, Angela’s door swings open, and she finds herself face to face with Noah Bennett, who stares at her a moment, then yells to his men, “All clear,” and closes the door. Aye, Noah’s been tasked with taking down his ally, staying undercover in Danko’s ranks is only getting harder. Afterwards, Peter and Angela sleep in the church and she finally has a dream, telling Peter she knows what they must do. They have to go see her sister…a sister who Peter didn’t know even existed.

As for Noah, he later found himself on the scene with Danko staring at Sylar’s dead body. Danko points out that it looks like he was able to do what Noah couldn’t. Danko gets in a car with a woman who says it will be a lot easier for them to operate together now that…the woman changes form (quite painfully from the looks of it) to Sylar…they think he is dead. Cue music. Cue credits. To be continued!
